How Nonna Was My Week?
Highlights:
For the first time in two years we had measurable snow in North Jersey. It was a beautiful snowy morning followed by a warm afternoon, so at least the roads were all clear.
I finally, FINALLY started The Bear and yes I think it’s great.
I devoured the first six issues of Tom King’s The Human Target, a gorgeously colorful noir with a 24-esque twist.
The New York Times has been running a fun ongoing series about food and romance, which I think has peaked with this absolutely incredible article about the experience of getting dumped in a restaurant.
If you follow drag queens on social media like me, you may have caught the confusing partnership between Kim Chi and the Weight Watchers Clinic. Shane O’Neil details how this is part of a pattern of injectible weight-loss drug companies trying to market themselves to body-positive influencers.
There’s been a lot to celebrate this week: Valentine’s Day, Manny’s 65th birthday, and my parents’ 38th wedding anniversary. Many delicious treats were had, including chocolates from Bixby and pastries from Rispoli. Then, in the midst of writing this post, a shipment of Jeni’s ice cream arrived from one Mr. Mark Orr. He’s just too sweet.
Lowlights:
Unsurprisingly, given the sweets, I’ve had a low-grade tummy ache all week.
Verdict:
Overall my week was exceptionally Nonna, even with the agita! On the Nonnameter from 1 to 5, I’d give this week 4.5 Nonnas.
Antipasto
Remember a few weeks ago where I said I might need to take a few weeks off because of some major life changes? Well now I’m finding those major life changes need my attention, so I need to take the next two Sundays off!
I’m still learning how to make time to write, which is another way of saying I’m still learning how to make time for myself now that so much of my time is devoted to others. My instinct is, and has always been, to view my time and needs as less important than the time and needs of others, to shrink myself to give others room. It’s a Herculean task to shift this thinking, but I’m still hopeful that My Nonna Era can be the place where I allow myself to take up space.
I’ll be sure to post some cute pictures from LA next week. xoxo.
